My under 13 child wants to start athletics! How do I go about joining?
We have two groups for children under the age of 13:
The Panthers group is for 5-8 year olds and trains on a Monday evening from 5-6 pm (please check our calendar as times may vary).
The Minors group is for 8-13 years olds and trains on a Monday evening from 6-7:30 pm (please check our calendar as times may vary).
These sessions generally involve an introduction to athletics with the opportunity to learn the basics of running, jumping and throwing.
During the winter months (October to March) the sessions are usually held indoors at the Brickfields sports hall (during the 2023/4 winter season training is at City College sports hall whilst work is carried out on the Brickfields sports hall), the remainder of the year is outdoors so be aware of the prevailing weather conditions.

Wear trainers and comfortable sporty clothing appropriate for the weather conditions. Please bring a suitable drink (non-fizzy) and bring a waterproof and/or warm clothes as required (it can get very cold and windy on the track!).

I am not able to attend the session I have booked. What shall I do?
If you have paid for the session and are no longer able to attend and require a refund please contact the treasurer with your bank details (full name of account holder, sort code and account number).
Where are you based?
All our sessions take place at the Brickfields Sports Complex.
Address: Madden Rd, Devonport, Plymouth PL1 4NE
Free parking is available in Plymouth Albion Rugby club car park. From the car park it is a short walk down to the athletics track. We would prefer you to enter the facility through the new clubhouse when it is open.
In the winter, the Panthers and Minors groups move indoors. All sessions usually take place in the Brickfields Sports Hall (City College sports hall for 2023/4 winter season)
We have a new clubhouse that overlooks the track on the back of the Plymouth Albion Stand where registration takes place for all track & field sessions. Hot drinks and some cold snacks may be purchased from here when a volunteer is available. We also have an old clubhouse with an attached gym/weights facility located on the opposite side of the car park. Our clubhouse phone number is 01752 509780, however, please note this phone is not monitored regularly.
Does my child need spikes?
No, you do not need spikes. We discourage the use of spikes at the Minors and Panthers sessions. This is mainly due to the fact we move the groups around and spikes are not appropriate for all activities. However, if your child has some spikes they wish to try out, we can try to accommodate this at another time or after the session has finished if you let us know. Spikes can be worn during outdoor competitions.
Can I book the track as an individual?
Not through us, we do not own the track or manage it. We only have the track hired for our advertised club sessions.
If you wish to use the track outside of these times, you need to go through Brickfields Sports Centre and book it individually. The costs for this are on their website: Brickfields athletics track hire.
If you do not book either through us (during our designated times) or Everyone Active then you are trespassing and invalidate any UKA insurance provided through the club or coach qualification.
How can I support the club?
We are all volunteers and the club does not make a profit. All money goes back into the running of the club, hiring of the track, hosting competitions, league membership and subsidising travel costs to away competitions. Everyone can support the club by ensuring their details and, in particular, their payments are up to date and paying the correct amount.
As an athlete you can support the club by attending competitions and wearing the club kit to compete in.
As a parent/guardian, you can offer to help at competitions as an official or assisting to register competitors.
We are always looking for new committee members. Keep an eye out on our Facebook page for any requests for volunteers in manual labour when it comes to the upkeep of our facilities.
If you wish to help coach, we offer to pay for all coaching courses. Clearly we would be looking for a commitment from you once qualified to justify the investment. Coaching courses can be found on the England Athletics website: Coaching courses
If you want to find out more about coaching please contact us

Sometimes, if there is enough interest, we offer places on a hired minibus or coach or to competitions.

Can I specialise in an event?
We only offer specialisation if you are above the age of 13, unless a prior arrangement is made with a coach. The Panthers and Minors sessions try to give a general appreciation of how to run, jump and throw in a fun environment.
If you are over the age of 13, we have many groups and specialised coaches. Please contact us to find the best group for you to join: contact us

Please log in to your account and monthly paying members can order this for free whilst pay as you go members will be required to pay. Any problems please contact the membership secretary
If you are in the Under 11 age group or below, you do not need an EA number to compete.

If you cannot see your number in your profile and you are in the Under 13 age group or above please contact the club Membership Secretary

What are the sportshall competitions?
The Devon Sportshall League is an indoor competition which is held throughout the winter months. This is for 8-14 year olds, and athletes may enter up to three events on the day as well as a relay if selected. Please bear with us as we are volunteers so this could take time.
